Little Prayers

Little man and his baby sister sat in the boat today, in our driveway (no actual water was used in the making of this story) a "storm" comes up and the children are scrambling to keep the boat from "sinking" by rowing with the oars. Suddenly Sabin cries out loudly, "Oh God... please. stop. this. storm!" Then kneeling down with folded hands and eyes closed more calmly says, "God please help me to know how to keep this boat from sinking. Keep us safe." Then back to scrambling, ordering his first mate to "Row! Chloe, row!" My kids are soooooo cute!

Language Learning

Over the past few months the children and I have spent bits of time watching various videos in Spanish as part of an immersion into a second language. One that we really enjoy is Brainy Baby's "¿Como se Dice?" While watching the video yesterday, Chloë exclaimed, "Baby".

"Yes," I responded, "Bebé".
"No," she said, "Baby".
"That's right, Chloë," I said trying the Spanish word again, "Bebé."
"No," she insisted, "Bab-Y, bab-Y". I had to laugh. "Yes, Chloë," I relented, "that's a bab-Y."

Beautiful Day

Today we walked around our local park. It's been a while since we've taken these regular walks. The sun felt warm on our faces and backs as we made the loop around the lake. Unlike walks in the past, Chloe insisted on walking for much of the time. Usually she rides in the jogger. We all wore our rain boots and had a great time stomping through the puddles of water, ice and mud. We even took some time to throw some stones into the water.

Two funs things happened. Chloe found her shadow. It was so cute to watch her wave and wave at it. She was delighted with her new found friend.

Sabin is getting even closer to riding his bike without training wheels. He had me kick the trainers up as high as I could and for several minutes he worked hard at balancing. I am going to look on craigslist to see if I can find a 12" bike for him. I think stepping down a size might really make the difference.

Grandpa's Visit

Grandpa came to visit us! We always love having him. The children enjoy all the time and attention, the games and outings, the little presents. It's better than Christmas when he comes.

Atypical Preschool Adventures

Today he studied geography while playing in the small stream running down the side of the street in front of our house. He studied physics and engineering as he damned the stream, made pools and let the water go again. He practiced dexterity and manipulation, using rudimentary tools of pinecones and sticks to move the leaf debris (mama told him not to touch the water). He even honed his investigative skills in seeking the source of the water. And I was delighted at how easily he came up with the answer.

Ah, yes, these are our pre-school days!

Big Man, Little Man

Today I am reminded of just how much I adore the man I married.

Busy as he was, he took twice as long diagnosing a car in order to take time for a little "helper". Joe has this wonderful way with Sabin, allowing the small boy to truly feel useful.

Even now, hours later, the vision brings tears to my eyes.
